Rapha Defeats Cooler in the Finals of PGL Quake Champions Open

This weekend Bucharest, the capital of Romania hosted a $50,000 Quake Champions tournament called PGL Quake Champions Open. In the final series of the event the North American player Shane "rapha" Hendrixson defeated his opponent from Russia Anton "Cooller" Singov with the score of 3-1, receiving $20,000 in prize money.

The event took place on October 5-7 at the home studio of PGL and consisted of three stages. The first stage featured a double-elimination bracket, which determined sixteen participants of the group stage. In the second stage the players competed in four GSL groups, with top two players from each group advancing further. The final third stage featured a single-elimination bracket with best-of-three quarterfinals and best-of-five semifinals and grand finals.

Rapha qualified for the playoffs from the first place in Group B, where he defeated both DaHanG (2:0) and agent (2:1), while Cooler placed second in Group A – he defeated dooi (2:1) and baSe (2:0), but lost to clawz (1:2). In the playoffs raphe outplayed serious (2:0) and clawz (3:0), while Cooler managed to beat toxjq (2:1) and k1llsen (3:1). The final series has concluded with the 3:1 score in favour of rapha.
